EMDR

(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma-focused therapy that helps individuals process and heal from distressing memories by using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping. It supports the brain’s natural ability to reprocess traumatic experiences, reducing emotional intensity and fostering resilience.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Is a form of psychotherapy that involves recalling distressing memories while focusing on bilateral stimulation allowing the brain to effectively process and reduce the emotional charge of these events.

What is Bilateral Stimulation?

Bilateral stimulation is technique that uses rhythmic, alternating sensory input. Examples of this include left-to-right eye movements, alternating sounds in the left and right ear, or tapping alternating sides of the body. This technique aides in activating both hemispheres of the brain. Over the during of the EMDR treatment this assists the brain in reprocessing distressing memories

How Does it Work?

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to repeatedly retell every detail of painful experiences. Together, we work at a pace that feels safe and supportive, building coping tools and emotional resources along the way. EMDR can be helpful for trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, negative beliefs about oneself, and patterns that continue to show up in relationships and daily life.

EMDR can also be effectively both virtually and in person. Using secure online tools and adapted bilateral stimulation techniques, clients can engage in the EMDR process from the comfort of their own space while still experiencing the benefits of this approach.

Sometimes past experiences, overwhelming events, or ongoing stress can continue to affect how we think, feel, and respond in the present. EMDR helps the brain reprocess these experiences so they feel less emotionally charged and disruptive over time.

“Not only does healing occur much more rapidly than in traditional therapy - EMDR is a quantum leap in the human ability to heal trauma and maladaptive beliefs”— Laurel Parnell
